One of the world's greatest pianists visits Wilmington and Vivace Music Foundation to present Beethoven’s grandest set of variations: the Diabelli.
"Every time we hear him (Richard Goode), he impresses us as better than we remembered, surprising us, surpassing our expectations and communicating perceptions that stay in the mind."
— Gramophone

In 1819 the well-known music publisher and pianist Anton Diabelli composed a waltz and asked all important composers of the Austrian empire to write a variation on it. His plan was to publish all the variations and to use the profits to benefit children and women affected by war. Beethoven, instead of writing one variation, wrote 33. The result was a work that has been referred to as the “greatest of all piano works” (Alfred Brendel) and “the greatest set of variations ever written” (Donald Tovey).

Join us as one of the preeminent pianists performs one of the preeminent works ever written.
