This exciting new full length, Broadway-style musical, by composer Wayne Barker (Peter And The Starcatcher on Broadway), and lyricistlibrettist BD Wong (known for his acting roles in Law & Order: SVU, Mr. Robot, Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens, Father Of The Bride, Mulan, and the Jurassic ParkWorld films) is adapted from the beloved 1995 film about a musician who begrudgingly becomes a high school music teacher but ultimately changes the lives of countless students. The brand new musical was developed here in Wilmington in several stages of workshopping and development with local talent in 2019 and 2020, culminating in this inspiring, one-night-only concert on the stage of Wilmington’s Wilson Center. The evening will also feature more than a hundred high school musicians with their band and choir directors, the best and brightest of Wilmington musical theater actors of all ages, the CFCC American Sign Language Interpretation program, the Wilmington Youth Symphony (Steven Errante, conductor), the Tallis Chamber Ensemble (Phil Singleton, director) and many more. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime celebration of teachers and Arts Education.

This program is proudly brought to the Wilson Center by Cape Fear Stage, the presenting arm of Cape Fear Community College.
