Migratuse Ataraxia

Migratuse: Migrated, departed, to have gone away, having been changed,
and the habitual patterns of moving from one place to another

Ataraxia: Calmness or a peace of mind, emotional tranquility

Wideman Davis Dance moves audiences through the dances they create and perform, dialogues they lead, research they conduct, and movement experiences they share. They invite audiences and communities to engage: With ideas. With history. With the world around us. With honesty.

The Wilson Center will present Migratuse Ataraxia, a site-specific multi-media performance and curated dinner that centers black experience and embodiment in southern antebellum domestic spaces. Directors of Wideman Davis Dance, Tanya Wideman-Davis and Thaddeus Davis, have collaborated with visual artist Michaela Pilar Brown, dramaturg Gina Kohler, culinary anthropologist, and scholar Myron Beasley to challenge traditionally white antebellum domestic spaces and reimagine the historical presence of black servitude and bondage.

The presentation of Migratuse Ataraxia was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This program is proudly brought to the Bellamy Mansion by Cape Fear Stage, the presenting arm of Cape Fear Community College.

Group tickets (for 15 or more) are available. Call 910-362-7999 to reserve. Each person, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
